Burnout isn’t only about workload. It’s also about the tiny moments that happen all day long—when a conversation gets tense, when a request becomes scope creep, when you’re rushing and your nervous system is already at capacity.
That’s why I teach a simple method that works in real time, not just in theory. The SOS Model helps you notice what’s happening, take ownership of what you need, shift the language you use, and then follow through with a next step you can actually live.
My Origin Story
(and why micro-scripts became the work)
Chapter 1 — The work I loved came with a cost
For more than 30 years, I’ve worked in speech-language pathology and higher education—supporting professionals who carry heavy caseloads, emotional labor, and constant responsibility. I also saw what happens when the job slowly takes more than it gives.
Chapter 2 — Burnout isn’t only workload. It’s language under pressure.
The turning point for me was realizing that burnout shows up in the smallest moments: the conversation you replay at night, the boundary you avoid, the email you over-explain, the “yes” you regret. Those moments are built from language—what we say out loud and what we say to ourselves.

That’s why I created a practical approach built around micro-scripts and the SOS Model—so helping professionals have words they can trust when stress is high and time is short.
Micro-scripts are short, repeatable phrases that reduce decision fatigue. They’re designed for the exact moments when you’re tired, pressured, or emotionally loaded—and you don’t have time to craft the perfect response.

The SOS Model (Sense It + Own It + Shift It + Live It)
Four steps. One goal: respond with clarity instead of reacting from pressure.
1) Sense It
Notice the signal: tension, urgency, people-pleasing, irritation, avoidance, or the "I should" spiral.
Micro-question: What's happening in me right now?
2) Own It
Name the boundary, need, or decision that belongs to you without blame or apology.
Micro-question: What am I responsible for—and what am I not?
3) Shift It
Choose language that moves the moment forward with professionalism and calm.
Micro-question: What's the next right sentence?
4) Live It
Follow through: one action, one boundary, one email, one calendar change.
Micro-question: What will I do next to match the words I just used?
This isn't about becoming cold or rigid. It's about being clear, so you can stay kind and sustainable.
What This Looks Like in Real Life
Scenario: A parent emails late at night asking for "just a quick call tomorrow," but your schedule is packed, and you're already behind on documentation.
Sense It: You feel urgency and guilt.
Own It: You're responsible for boundaries and quality care—not instant availability.
Shift It (micro-script): "Thanks for reaching out. I can't add a call tomorrow. I can offer two times on ______." If it's urgent, the best next step is ______."
Live It: You send the email, schedule the next available slot, and close the loop—no late-night rumination.
